SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY
On August 15th, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
"Let us contemplate the glory of Mary with joy"
This joy is the joy a child shows in honoring and celebrating their mother.
The child knows what they owe her.
Mary is the mother of Jesus, the Son of God.
Mary is also the mother whom God entrusts to us through Jesus.
How can we remain unmoved by this gift God grants us? It is not due to any merit of our own; only the love God bears for each of us accounts for it. Mary is our mother in faith. At the Annunciation, she immediately shows her trust and readiness to respond to the Word of God. She trusts in the Word of the Father and the Son. Nothing stops her from interceding with Jesus at the wedding at Cana. She does not waver during the trials Jesus endures; she shares in His sufferings. She is there at the foot of the Cross. She is there again, in prayer with the Apostles, at Pentecost. She is the Mother of the Church.
From all eternity, our Mother has shared in the fullness of God's Love; it is now up to us to live in that love with joy.
A blessed Feast of the Assumption!
