Marielle, President of Vie Montante Canada, testifies

Like many members of Life Ascending International, Marielle received with great pleasure an invitation to attend the "Wealth of years" congress held in Rome from January 29 to 31.  Prior to the conference, participants were asked, if they wished, to write an article to testify to their involvement with the elderly and how this involvement was born.

Here is what Marielle wanted to share and tell members of her movement about what had led her to work with people of the 3rd age.

A nurse by training, and having done my course at Sainte-Justine Hospital, I always worked with children and teenagers, I thought it was my vocation...

In 1977, I bought a new but uninhabitable house... So, I decided to get to work and finish the interior so that I could live in it. I resigned from my job at a center for dysfunctional children to set up my home.

The director of the Foyer St-Donat, a residence for the elderly, knowing I was no longer working, came to me and asked if I was available "to help him out", to deal with the extra work during the holidays due to a lack of staff during this period: I answered yes...

I have become attached to the elderly since this "yes" and I continued on this road by taking courses in gerontology, geriatrics and pastoral animation. I believe that my vocation, my mission, has changed and I am always with you and Life Ascending.

What I shared with you, I didn’t do with my family members or even with my friends.

February 26 was Ash Wednesday, if we refer to the Prions en Église ,it is written that "the  great gestures of God are prepared by a time of reflection and silence"  it is also a time of prayer, mortification and alms before arriving at Holy Week and Easter.
