First intergenerational meeting grandchildren / grandparents

On May 13, Vida Ascendente, in collaboration with the teaching delegation of the Diocese of Getafe, held the first intergenerational meeting between grandparents and grandchildren. The event brought together more than 500 families, so it was necessary to organize two sessions.

We remembered the world of grandparents with the "trunk of memories", from which we took out objects from the domestic world of grandparents. Objects that sometimes grandchildren could not identify (coffee grinder, calculating machine and telephone, all activated by crank)

We connected the world of grandparents to that of grandchildren through the history of the train. For this, we present the steam trains of the past,  the current high-speed trains  (AVE) and the magnetic trains of the future (Maglev).

We shared the two worlds with games in which grandchildren and grandparents, working as a team, had to guess the identity of an animal based on the clues provided by the participants.

In accordance with the motto RENACER (Reborn), the main objective of this meeting is to meet the new generations of elderly people to accompany them in a world of spirituality, today something forgotten. The intensity between generations of grandparents and grandchildren is a source of energy to revitalize religious experience and hope.

This first meeting allowed us to see how well it had been received and encourages us to continue by improving this first. We want to address the concerns of grandchildren with responses from grandparents, beyond the world of games.

The ideas that this intergenerational meeting has made possible encourage us to spread them in the dioceses of Spain.
