A reminder about the day of October 1

In Santo Domingo, the Statutory General Assembly of LAI decided that the World Day of Life Ascending would be celebrated every year on October1, which corresponds to the International Day of the Elderly of the UN.

We make some proposals to celebrate this day and show how LAI intervenes to help the elders live this stage of their lives:

  • Prayer meeting,
  • Eucharist,
  • Festive meeting,
  • Intervention on a local radio station or in the print media.

We invite each national responsible to contact the Episcopal Conference (through the referring bishop) to make this approach known.

The wealth of the years

This is the theme of the first International Congress on the Pastoral Care of the Elderly, which will take place in Rome from 29 to 31 January 2020 based on the following program:

  • The Church with the Elderly
  • Family and the elderly
  • The vocation of the elderly in the Church
  • Audience with Pope Francis

We remind you of the importance of participating in this congress and the importance of the testimonies you can bring in relation to its themes.

LAI's Steering Committee

At the end of this congress, a steering committee will be organized in Rome.

All the terms of this committee will be communicated to you shortly.

Executive Committee of September 2019

The members of the executive committee around the president, Monique Bodhuin and the ecclesiastical assistant, Msgr. François Maupu gathered in Paris on September 3rd and 4th.

On the agenda was the preparation for the next International Congress on the Pastoral Care of the Elderly to be held in Rome from 29 to 31 January 2020.

LAI members are asked to highlight local initiatives responding to the themes of this congress. These initiatives will feed the next newsletters.

An overview of the news of the movement in each country as well as the meetings planned in the coming weeks were presented.
